Why is employee wellbeing important?

At any one time 1 in 4 people will be experiencing poor mental wellbeing, with an estimated annual cost of £26 billion to UK businesses

77% of employed participants of BITC’s 2016 research had experienced poor mental wellbeing, with 62% reporting work as a contributing factor

Absences as a result of reported work-related, mental wellbeing problems are now the leading cause of workplace absence in the UK 

Workplace wellbeing interventions addressing employee mental wellbeing offer a single effective tool to reduce absenteeism, presenteeism, staff replacement and loss of productivity.

The Benefits of Addressing Employee Wellbeing

Improved productivity. The 2016 Social Market Foundation ‘Working Well’ report states that 1 in 3 employees are less productive due to poor mental wellbeing, with the UK being at least 25% less productive than most of the countries we directly compete against.

Increased employee engagement and retention as employees who feel respected, cared for and valued during a period of vulnerability will reward organisations with loyalty and commitment. As a consequence this creates an open culture, which enhances trust and allows employees to be authentic and honest about their feelings.

E-Learning Programmes

We’ve teamed up with Headtorch to offer an E-learning programme that raises awareness of mental wellbeing from both an individual and team perspective. Developed in collaboration with University of Glasgow, the Headtorch E-learning programme uses engaging, televised drama and documentary material and interactive E-learning activities, to bring a number of well-being issues to life.
